Onondaga, NY November 19, 2017: The Onondaga Flames of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) announced today that Wagner freshman right-hand pitcher and middle infielder, Mike Ruggiero will play for the Flames in the upcoming 2018 summer season. Ruggerieo was a two-sport athlete at Smithtown High School East, playing two years of varsity baseball and three-years  of varsity volleyball for the Bulls. Among Mike’s many awards and honors:

  • In his junior year, was a League 3 All-League Player
  • All-Suffolk County league selection
  • In his senior season, named team captain, leading his team to the League 1 championship
  • Tied for first-place on the all-time career wins list at Smithtown High School East
  • Ranked in the top-20 Blue Chip Prospects of the 2017 graduating class
  • All-League 3 Pitcher honoree
  • Selected as one of 25 players for the Long Island Grand Slam Challenge All-Star Game in Suffolk County.
  • Named to the 2017 All-State Baseball Honor for New York State, one of the top players selected in NYS

The son of Melissa and Michael Ruggerio of Smithtown, NY, Mike has two siblings, Amanda and Ashley. He will be pursuing a degree in Business Administration.

Wagner College is a NCAA Division 1 baseball program located on Staten Island.. Under sixth-year Head Coach Jim Carone, the Wagner Seahawks are a program on the rise. Last year Wagner finished third in the competitive Northeast Conference behind perennial powerhouses Bryant and Central Connecticut.
