August 20, 2018 Onondaga, NY: The Onondaga Flames of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) announced today that Skaneateles high school senior Cregg Scherrer will join the team for the 2019 summer season. The University at Albany 2019 commit had a pitcher’s dream season in 2018 – posting a 0.00 ERA. That’s not a typo – zero, zip, nada earned runs. “At any level, that’s very impressive for six 7-inning games.” noted Wayne Walker, Flames president
Striking out 93 while walking only 23, Scherrer also posted an impressive 3.85 SO to BB ratio over 40.2 innings pitched. He allowed only one run (unearned) to cross the plate all season. He had five games in which he had at least 12 strikeouts, including In this year’s second round of the Section III Class B playoffs where he pitched a complete game shutout with 19 strikeouts and only one hit and one walk – that’s 19 Ks out of 21 outs..
Delivering from his high 3/4 arm slot, Scherrer commands a heater that sits at 85-87 and peaks at 88-mph, and a 74 mph curve ball, creating big timing problems for hitters.
Not yet 18-years old, Scherrer has room to grow and to fill out his 5’11” 165 lbs. athletic frame.
“When I first saw his stats I thought there was a typo but when I drilled down I realized it was accurate. Then, I thought maybe he was just playing in a league below his talent level. However, Cregg has excelled at regional and national level tournaments against stiff competition – he’s the real deal.” commented. Walker, “The Flames will give him some great experience facing high caliber college hitters. I have no doubt he’ll be up to the challenge.”
Scherrer, who is ranked by Perfect Game USA as the 39th top player and the 4th best left-handed pitcher in New York State, has won numerous accolades including:
- 2017 WWBA 2019 GRADS or 16U National Championship All Tournament Pitchers
