Flames High on Batavia All-Star Honor Student
Syracuse, NY November 7, 2016: The Onondaga Flames announced today they have added shortstop Alex Canty to their roster for the 2017 summer season. In his senior year, the Monroe County Division IV and Section V Class A2 Player of the Year posted a 4.0 GPA while blasting a slash line of .508/.610/.851.
“I am actually more impressed with his GPA than his terrific slash line – 4.0 wins every time. Seriously, Alex has intelligence, talent and an outstanding work ethic, making his potential exceptional.”, commented Wayne Walker, Flames president.
Batavia’s Best’s Alex Brasky, previewing the Batavia Rotary Club’s 2016 Baseball Tournament, commented “….perhaps the most-impressive of the bunch has come from the bat and glove of one Alex Canty – Batavia’s Senior shortstop.”
Beasky continued, “In addition to playing a smooth shortstop throughout the season, Canty is also second in the area in batting average – hitting a .594 – and has batted in 15 runs, which is good enough for 4th in the area. He has hit 2 HRs as well.”
Ryan Stevens, Flames Director of Baseball noted, “Alex is just the kind of young player we need to build the franchise. We’re fortunate and happy to have him.”
Alex is continuing his education at Monroe Community College and will play for the widely respected Tribunes baseball program. He is the son of Tom Canty and Sarah Della Penna of Batavia, NY.
