Syracuse, NY October 20, 2016: The Onondaga Flames of the Perfect game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL.com) announced today that Conor Thompson will be an assistant coach for the 2017 summer season. A local product, Conor is a graduate of West Genesee High where he starred in both baseball and hockey. An outstanding catcher, he was named All-League catcher two years in a row.
Conor had an excellent collegiate career at SUNY Onondaga CC where he was a JUCO all Conference catcher and later at Mansfield University (PA) as a two-year starter. He was also a two time summer league All Star selection in the NYCBL.
After Mansfiekd, Conor pursued a career in professional baseball with the Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League (Texas Indy Ball). His stellar play in his first year earned him an invite to spring training with the Chicago Cubs, who signed him to play in their farm system. Conor was assigned to the Lake Erie Crushers in the Frontier League.
Thompson is now pursuing a career in coaching. He was the Catching Coach for OCC last year and helped lead them to the Regional Championship game. “Conor is a great addition to our coaching staff. He is an excellent coach and his collegiate and professional playing experience will be invaluable to the team.” said Flames Director of baseball Ryan Stevens.
The Onondaga Flames will play a 50 game schedule in June and July. Their home games will be played at the Onondaga Community College Baseball Complex.The PGCBL is a wooden bat development league for collegiate players with remaining college eligibility.
