Liverpool High Southpaw Ace to Join Flames Straight Out of High School
Syracuse NY, April 26, 2017: In a rare signing of a high school player prior to entering college, the Onondaga Flames announced today that they have added left-hand power pitcher Jeff DeStefano to their summer season roster. DeStefano will join the Flames at the end of the Liverpool High School season.
Last year as a junior, DeStefano, was named to the All-League Team and the NYSSWA All-State team on the strength of a 5-1 season that included a 51 strikeouts in 50 innings and a 1.82 ERA. So far this year, he has logged a 1.34 ERA over 15 innings.
“Jeff is bigger and stronger this year and his fast ball is really nasty.” said Ryan Stevens, Flames General Manager, “We think Jeff is a terrific prospect and, even though we will only have him for the last half of the season, we think so much of him that we wanted him on our roster anyway.”
“Our league is a very high level of competition with many players drafted by MLB each year. Jeff will get a taste of top-notch collegiate play and we feel he will rise to meet the challenge”, commented team president Wayne Walker, “we’re keeping our eye on his younger brother, Michael too!”
DeStefano is the son of Linda and Steve DeStefano and brother of Michael and Marissa of Liverpool, NY. Steve is the owner operator of the popular Chadwick’s Sports Bar & Grill 2529 James Street in Syracuse.
Alex Canty and Ricky Sisto Will Play for Flames This summer
Syracuse NY, April 24, 2017: Flames recruits Alex Canty and Ricky Sisto are having seasons to remember at Monroe CC. Canty, a freshman, has posted a slash line or .371/.440/.681 over 32 games and 128 plate appearances. Alex has 10 doubles, 4 triples and 6 Home runs so far this season. Alex, 6’1″, 190 lounds, hails from Batavia, NY. Sophomore teammate Ricky Sisto a proven hitter, has a slash line of .355/.474/.452 in 24 games and 75 plate appearances. Rocky is a well-know star from Liverpool, NY.
Syracuse NY April 24, 2017:Sophomore pitcher Jake Binder has led the streaking Ithaca Bombers (20-8; 10-3) to second place in the Empire 9 behind St John Fisher. The Bombers will put their 10-game win streak on the line at Oswego State on Tuesday, April 25th.
Jake has appeared in 10 games this season and pitched 49.2 innings, compiling a 3.26 ERA. In his last five appearances, he pitched 20 innings while posting an impressive .900 ERA. During this stretch, Jake struck out 17 while walking only 6 and giving up zero extra base hits.
Binder, a 6’4″ 190-pounder from Jamesville, NY, will play for the Flames this summer.
Zach Kemp and Jared Strait, who will both pitch for the Flames this summer, were named Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks by the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).
Wells College baseball pitcher Zach Kemp was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 2, 2017. Kemp turned in his best pitching performance of the year and pitched the Express to a win over Utica College.
Kemp pitched six strong innings and allowed just two runs on two hits. He had seven strikeouts and walked four. It was his first collegiate victory, and it helped Wells to its fourth win of the year in the program’s inaugural season.
In the previous week, Strait was the winning pitcher in the first victory for Wells as a varsity baseball program. The rookie pitcher tossed six innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts. Strait issued two walks while both runs in the 7-2 victory over Hilbert were unearned.
On the strength of an impressive 4 inning no-hit relief performance against the Drew University Rangers, Joe DeAngelis, who will pitch for the Flames this summer, was named Colonial States Athletic Congerence Pitcher of the Week for April 16,
DeAngelis struck out 5 and allowed no hitters to reach first base in the Giants 3-2 win. Keystone is currently in second place in the CSAC with a 13-2 record.
Right-Hander Was Four-Year Ace for Cape Central High School
Syracuse NY April 4, 2017: The Onondaga Flames of the Perfect Game Collegiate League (www.pgcbl.com) announced today the signing of Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) freshman Chase Hagerty (6’4″, 215 Lbs.) for the 2017 summer season.
A four-sport athlete in high school, he was the ace of the pitching staff since his freshmen year. Through his first three years, Chase had a 1.43 ERA with 295 strikeouts with only 78 walks. He capped off his HS career with a senior campaign featuring a 1.39 ERA in 53 innings with 70 strikeouts and 11 walks. Helped lead Cape Central to district and sectional championships.
Hagerty was a multi-time all-district, all-conference, all-conference tournament and All-Southeast Missouri Team member and was awarded the Jim Allen Award, as the male athlete who best exemplifies the qualities of citizenship.
